This PD Series is a 5-part Tax Preparation Clinic 
Description: This workshop is designed to help family child care educators navigate the complexities of tax preparation, strategic tax planning, and regulatory compliance. Participants will learn to distinguish between tax preparation  and tax planning (long-term strategies to reduce taxes).
The session also covers the new Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting , family child care educators must accurately report ownership and control details to ensure compliance.
Participants will gain practical knowledge through an on-demand video and receive personalized support during a one-hour coaching session to apply these concepts to their unique business situations. This workshop equips educators with the tools to strengthen their financial management and meet regulatory obligations confidently.
Expected Outcomes:
  • Understanding the Difference Between Tax Preparation and Tax Planning: Before every session, participants will watch an on-demand video with the relevant topics, explaining the distinctions between tax preparation and tax planning. During a follow-up one-hour coaching session, they will apply this knowledge to their own financial situation by organizing records and identifying opportunities to collaborate with tax professionals for better financial outcomes.
  • Complying with Beneficial Ownership Reporting Requirements: After viewing a detailed on-demand video on Beneficial Ownership Reporting, participants will prepare their business ownership documentation. In the one-hour coaching session, they will receive personalized guidance on completing and submitting their tax documents in time compliant with the 2025 deadline.
  • Developing Strategic Tax Planning Practices for Small Businesses: Through an on-demand video, participants will learn about strategic tax planning techniques, such as maximizing deductions and planning for tax credits. In the coaching session, they will work with a coach to create a customized tax planning strategy that supports their long-term business goals and reduces their annual tax liability.
Learning Objectives
  1. Understand the Difference Between Tax Preparation and Tax Planning: Family child care educators will distinguish between tax preparation (reporting historical financial information) and tax planning (strategic, long-term tax reduction) to enhance their financial management skills.
  2. Comply with Beneficial Ownership Reporting Requirements: Family child care educators will learn how to identify and report their business’s ownership and control information to meet FinCEN’s Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting deadline of January 1, 2025.
  3. Develop Strategic Tax Planning Practices for Small Business: Family child care educators will apply practical strategies to reduce their liability over the long term while maintaining compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
